1 Cup solid white vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon Vanilla flavor (clear, if possible since brown colors your icing) I use almond flavor
2 Tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon milk
1 lb. pure cane confectioners2&& sugar (approximately 4 cups)
1 Tablespoon Meringue Powder (you can find it at Michael's)
Butter Cream Frosting (Yields approx. 3 cups)
Cream shortening, vanilla, and milk. Add dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until all ingredients have been thoroughly mixed together. Blend an additional minute or so, until creamy.
This consistency of frosting will be used for making roses. It will be adjusted to make borders and writing.
set aside one cup frosting.
Add 4 teaspoons of water to the 2 cups remaining for icing the cake.
only use icing color gel or paste to color frosting.
