Food Gadget of the Month: Digital Barbeque Tongs

posted by

Summer may be over, but that doesn't mean you have to stop barbecuing! And now, with DinnerBeat's Food Gadget of the Month, your barbecued meats can be cooked to perfection! The Digital BBQ Tongs from Taylor Gifts not only tells you the exact temperature of your food, but can even tell you if it's ready.
This handy gadget has seven presets (based on different meats) and one custom setting. As soon as the tips touch the meat, an alarm will chime, letting you know if the meat is cooked through! No more raw or undercooked meat for you! This battery-powered device also has a built-in LED light, perfect for grilling at night!

Food Gadget of the Month: Food Evaporator

posted by

The food gadget of the month for August might make you do a double-take and make you exclaim "What the...?!" It looks like something you'll find in a mad scientist's laboratory or in the International Station - it's the Food Evaporator.

What exactly does it do? When we first saw it, we weren't quite sure either. But apparently, you can turn any food into a syrup and preserve its flavor for later use. While we probably wouldn't be using this to capture Aunt Millie's Thanksgiving turkey, it might be a good idea for savory spices, herbs and some meats whose essences you can use for certain dishes, without changing their texture or color. How about making vanilla-cherry icecream that stays smooth and retains it creamy white color? Or perhaps from chicken soup without the oily grit of chicken meat? This gadget is available your local lab supply shop, but you'll probably find some ingenious hacker hawking it on eBay.

Food Gadget of the Month: Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker

posted by

DinnerBeat's gadget of the month for July certainly gives new meaning to "playing with your food." You and the kids can beat the summer heat, while having a ball with the Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker.

According to the website, all you need is some ice, rock salt, cream, sugar, vanilla and a "group of friends" and you'll have some delicious home made ice cream in less than 30 minutes.

How does is work?

One end of the ball is filled with rock salt and ice. Then, you fill the other end with the cream, vanilla and sugar, plus any flavorings into the other end (you can check out some recipes here). Then, the fun begins! Just toss the ball around for around 30 minutes (stopping after 10 minutes to mix up the ice cream) and voila! Home made ice cream!

Try this cool gadget at your next barbecue or beach party!

May's Gadget of the Month is one that's right out of a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The Hog Wild Twirling Spaghetti Fork is ranked #6 in PC World's "10 Weirdest Kitchen Gadgets".

How does it work? Simple! Just stick the fork into your spaghetti noodles, press the button and voilà! No mess, no fuss - just a mouthful of spaghetti at the end of the device, ready to pop into your mouth. Of course, this nifty little gizmo would appeal more to kids - it will certainly make them look forward to dinner.

Food Gadget of the Month: Super Paper

posted by

March’s Gadget of the Month comes from PopSci.com’s Kitchen Gadget Bonanza. Out of the 24 items they featured, we like this one best, as it is super simple and needs no wires, plugs, lcd screens or buttons: Super Paper (Fata Paper Cooking Film)

According to the website, the paper can “can withstand temperatures up to 445 [F]”. It’s not resistant to direct fire, but you can wrap up anything in it, roast it in the oven and even serve the food tableside. You can also use it in the microwave, in boiling water or even hot oil. Pretty neat, huh?

Food Gadget of the Month: + / - hot plate

posted by

The Food Gadget of the Month is all about form, function and style. This handy gizmo, called the + / - hot plate, was designed by Ami Drach and Dov Ganchrow for the Dining in 2015 competition. In today’s modern world, the ceramic plate is a throwback to our ancestors who have been using it for hundreds of years. According to the designers, their creation “…combines ceramic and technology together…using the conductive properties of silk-screened gold and amorphic metal films (in the same manner printed circuit boards or car windshield defrosters work)”.

Now that you can cook your food directly on your plate, that’ll definitely cut down the time it takes to prepare dinner! If only they could make it clean itself…

Food Gadget of the Month: LEGO Egg Timer

posted by

Each month, the Dinnerbeat blog will be featuring interesting, useful or even wacky food gadgets from around the world to share with our readers.

The first Dinnerbeat Food Gadget of the Month is one for the young and young at heart. For the little ones who just can’t wait ‘till the timer rings, this cute LEGO Egg Timer will keep them amused as they count the minutes ‘till those fresh-from-the oven cookies are ready!

The design is reminiscent of the classic LEGOman faces, and the three faces line up to form different expressions as it counts down the time.

According to Gizmodo’s Lightning Review, its “It's cute. It's makes a wonderful tic-tock noise. It helps you do roasted lamb and chicken and Beef Wellington and cakes. It's Lego. Really, it can't get any better than that. I only wish it could do more than one hour.”
